Welsh Libraries Marketing Innovation Awards 2012 – Swansea University wins again!

There must be something in the water in Swansea! It is the second year running that they have won the HE category in these awards supported by the Welsh Government.

This year the entry was the Celebrating Swansea University Authors project.  The project involved videoing academics talking about writing and the books that they have published, with posters to accompany.  You can see the videos on: http://www.youtube.com/user/CelebrateSUAuthors

Swansea were commended for creative use of the available technology and very clever use of the partnerships with academic staff.  ‘This type of offer demonstrates a clear understanding of the needs of the user and is fully sustainable and replicable.’  The use of QR codes works really well with the target audience and illustrates user insight really well.

The Strategic Marketing Toolkit puts your customers at the centre of service planning, delivery and promotion. Its 7 easy steps will help you to create marketing plans that clarify distinct service offers, target key customer groups and communicate the benefits of your services effectively.
Originally developed by University Library Services at the University of Sunderland, the toolkit has now been employed for various purposes at Sunderland and beyond, and has proved to be both highly accessible and transferable.

The aim of today’s workshop is to share with you the concept of the toolkit and its core techniques,  so that you can translate it for your own needs – ensuring your customers fully engage with your services and that you are able to demonstrate the real difference you are making to them.

This workshop, including tours and light refreshments, is available free of charge thanks to sponsorship by Cilip Cymru Wales.

Marketing Innovation Awards 2009-2010

Many libraries in Wales run innovative activities, often with limited resources. These awards aim to celebrate the valuable work that library staff undertake to bring library services to new audiences and to develop new activities for existing users.

The awards give library staff at all levels the chance to win recognition for their work in promoting their service. This year there is a category for higher education libraries.

Winners will be invited to attend an awards event on Monday 22nd February at the Senedd, Cardiff where they will be presented with their prize by the libraries champion – Ruth Jones.

New role for Ruth Jones – championing Welsh libraries

Actress and writer Ruth Jones is taking on a new role to promote and act as a spokesperson for Welsh libraries.

During 2009/10, Ruth will be attending events, taking part in media interviews and commenting on media stories about libraries and helping launch a high profile national campaign in the autumn.

This is the first time libraries in Wales have had a celebrity Library Champion and follows on from the success of last year’s Happy Days campaign which was launched by Ruth in Barry Library and enlisted the support of a number of celebrities to raise awareness of the value of libraries.
